Blue Box Auction Gallery Roger G. Jacobsen Paperweight Collection: Part II Spanning 244 lots, the second installment of the Jacobsen collection is led by a 1989 St. Louis faceted double overlay numbered 18 of 50, its red over white casing cut in an allover gingham of squares and diamonds that opens onto an upright bouquet of coral, pink, white and blue lampwork blooms above a rosette of green leaves. Beside it stands an early Paul Stankard floral engraved experimental 1977 and signed with his letter S cane, a working piece from the years when the maker was still resolving the botanical style that would define him. Behind the two lies the deepest Perthshire holding in the entire collection, 121 lots reaching from the factory's earliest production into the year 2000, joined by forty-five St. Louis weights, twenty-five antique Union Glass personalized weights inscribed with names and dates from 1866 through 1926, and studio work by Rick Ayotte, Charles Kaziun, Paul Ysart, Victor Trabucco, Debbie Tarsitano, Francis Whittemore and Dominick Labino. Pre-Bidding is underway. Submitting a maximum bid today ensures your place is secure when live bidding closes this auction on November 19, 2026 at 1:15 PM ET. About the Collector Part II continues a lifetime's worth of acquisitions built by a collector who spent fifty years learning to tell craftsmanship from decoration. Roger G. Jacobsen's eye was formed early, on a pair of unmarked St. Louis weights bought at a sale near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and sharpened over decades running his own dealership, Paperweights of Quality, and forging direct friendships with the makers themselves. He was a personal friend of Stuart Drysdale, founder of Perthshire Paperweights, who stayed at his home for days at a stretch during American sales trips. That relationship is the reason this installment is weighted the way it is, as no dealer assembled a Perthshire holding of this depth by working from catalogs alone. His friendship with Orient & Flume likewise went beyond that of a typical dealer, giving him access inside the California studio itself, and he wrote about the maker for the Paperweight Collectors Association's Annual Bulletin. Perthshire Perthshire is the defining category of this sale, 121 lots in all, with sixty-nine of them falling inside the factory's dense 1977 to 1982 run. The strongest pieces are the cut and cased ones: a 1977 triple overlay of yellow over white over translucent deep pink, cut with oval printies over a star-cut base; a 1996 double overlay in dark green over white whose crown printie frames a full lampwork bouquet; a 1986 golden dahlia of four layered petal rows beneath a five window faceted dome, numbered 51 of 300; and a 1981 latticinio crown basket numbered 125 of 200, its alternating white latticinio and twisted ribbons radiating from a yellow and amber lampwork flower. Collectors of the factory's pictorial work will find a 1987 hummingbird shot through with aventurine, a 1980 faceted aquarium of fish moving among upright seaweed, two 1982 flamingo scenes each from an edition of 300, and a run of silhouette canes covering a rooster, a sailboat, a transport series and a nursery rhyme cushion ground. The Christmas weights run six deep across twenty-six years, from a 1974 robin silhouette in a millefiori crown through holly, an angel, a 1996 poinsettia and a Santa Claus dated 2000, with a 1988 winter scene of a boy pulling a sled beneath an owl in a bare tree. Depth shows in the repeats as well, with five Acorn & Oak Leaf weights from the 1981 edition of 300, four Damson Plums from 1977, three Pom-Pom ruby overlays from 1982, and a pair of Cacao Flower weights from 1987. Also here is a crown swirl carrying the JA cane of Jack Allen, one of Perthshire's founding craftsmen, and a Formal Italian Garden issued as a limited-edition sample numbered 18 of 400. St. Louis Forty-five St. Louis lots follow the gingham-cut overlay described above, led by a 1980 gilded coiled lizard numbered 70 of 300, its ridged body curling atop a pink and white double overlay cut with clover shaped windows and linked by gold vine work over a star-cut base. A 1983 triple overlay in deep red over white over translucent blue carries an upright bouquet beneath large oval windows, a 1994 Gold Salamandre numbered 64 of 150 lies coiled on a white dome swept with cobalt ribbons, and a 1996 Campanules weight numbered 1 of 75 rings five bell-shaped flowers with a blue and white millefiori garland. Further highlights include a 1997 Printania lampwork rose on a white star cane carpet ground from a production of only 150, a 1995 lampwork bird tending a nest of three chicks, and a 1977 Bouquets dressés in ruby over white with a top window and printies. Millefiori collectors will find three examples of the 1981 444 Commemorative from an edition of 350, blue carpet grounds from 1981 and 1982, a 1978 carpet ground set with four animal silhouette canes, a 1970 faceted overlay millefiori mushroom, and a scattered millefiori on upset muslin dated 1962, the earliest St. Louis piece in the sale. A long run of clematis, fuchsia, poinsettia and cherry spray weights on latticinio spans 1972 through 1986. Union Glass Co. Personalized Weights Twenty-five weights from the Union Glass Company of Somerville, Massachusetts form one of the most unusual groups in either installment. Each was made to order, with applied white lampwork lettering spelling out a name and a date over a ground of packed flowers, garlands and gold aventurine flecks. The inscriptions read as a record of ordinary American lives, from a birth dated May 24, 1866, through a name and the year 1893, a marriage dated January 19, 1913, and a run of commissions carrying dates of 1908, 1910, 1912, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917, 1920 and 1926. Groups of this size rarely survive together, and they offer a window into a factory that worked from 1851 until 1927. Baccarat The Baccarat offering is small and selective. A 1971 cobalt over white double overlay draws its concentric millefiori rings down into a mushroom tuft beneath faceted windows, a 1972 lampwork pansy opens from a white and red star cane over a turquoise ground with a signature cane near the rim, and a 1969 spaced millefiori carries its date cane over a clear ground flecked with upset muslin. Also here are two concentric millefiori garlands with the etched Baccarat mark, a Macedonia scramble packed with candy-stripe spirals and latticinio fragments, and a pair of opaline agate orbs decorated in gilt, one with rows of bees and one with fleur-de-lis. Paul Ysart and British Glass Four Paul Ysart weights anchor the Scottish side of the sale, each carrying his PY cane or his characteristic aventurine work: a millefiori butterfly whose four wings are packed with complex canes over a cobalt ground, a tied bouquet gathered by a brown ribbon bow within a stave basket, a coiled snake with aventurine flecks and a yellow eye cane on a granular green ground, and a spotted fish swimming above an iridescent pebbled bed. Three Whitefriars pieces join them, including a 1972 faceted concentric with its date cane, a yellow rose set in the bowl of a footed goblet, and a white rose raised on a pedestal foot. Orient & Flume and Studio Masters Orient & Flume returns with a 1978 lampwork bluebird perched on a millefiori blossom vine, etched as an artist proof from an edition of 250, a 1979 dragonfly spreading latticinio mesh wings over an aventurine ground numbered 142 of 250, and a 1976 butterfly on a gold iridescent ground. The studio names run deep beyond the Stankard described above, which is joined by a 1975 floral vine numbered 18 of 50 and an orange fruiting branch. Rick Ayotte contributes a 1998 bouquet of four white blossoms over tubular blue buds, signed and numbered from an edition of 25. Charles Kaziun is represented by three pieces bearing his gold K, among them a double pansy with a gold foil bee and a yellow trumpet flower on a ruby ground densely flecked with aventurine. Also here are a Debbie Tarsitano bouquet with its DT cane, a Victor Trabucco blackberry branch from 1995, a Francis Whittemore pink clematis on cobalt, a Ken Rosenfeld bouquet from 1988, a Harold J. Hacker lizard over a mottled frit ground, two Dominick Labino works including a 1970 blue rose, a Charles Lotton iridescent floral numbered 2 of 100, a Steven Correia Saturn form, and a Vandermark/Merritt eagle etched by Barry Sautner in 1982. Beyond the Sphere Eighteen lots carry paperweight technique into other forms, a category that rarely appears in quantity. Perthshire supplies a cobalt overlay scent bottle cut with circular windows onto a lampwork flower and P cane, close pack millefiori bottles and stoppers, a pair of faceted floral shot glasses, and a concentric millefiori cream and sugar set from the factory's first years. St. Louis contributes a 1974 crystal seal press numbered 324 of 500, its ruby teardrop handle spiraled the full length with white latticinio threads. Rounding out the group are two Kaziun pedestal weights, a Whittemore crimp rose on a pedestal foot, a Josh Simpson iridescent floral vase from 1983, and a handblown latticinio torsade parade cane of cobalt and rose threads running from a rounded knob to a fire-polished point. Antique and Unattributed A closing group gathers the unsigned and the unusual. A late 19th century poinsettia sits over a swirled bed of white, yellow, green and pink glass fragments; four deep purple lampwork turnips meet at the center of an early 20th century weight, their roots forming a radiating star; two cobalt banners carry an applied lampwork name over a granular red ground; and an end of day scramble packs elongated shards of green, pink, blue, ivory and maroon edge to edge with no ground visible. Also here are a pair of encased birds on a mottled ground, concentric millefiori in a stave basket, a Chinese style painted floral with butterfly, a Murano style concentric, and a pressed Wheaton Village commemorative from Millville, New Jersey. Part II carries the weight of the collection's Perthshire years. Register now to bid.
