A claim of exemption from the Civil War for a resident Harmon J. Bear in the town of Broome (Bristol) in the county of Schoharie, NY. The document lists medical reasons for the exemption. It is signed and notarized on September 8th, 1862. On the reverse side of the document, it is signed by a surgeon. There is also a seal in the upper left-hand corner of the document.  Measures to be 7 3/4 x 10 inches.
